We've booked our ride to the airport, received a "looking forward to serving you" email from the hotel in London and even booked a table for dinner in Paris next Sunday evening. I've probably been to London fifteen times, but somehow I'd missed this area until 2017 when I visited the Warwick Castle Pub in the area. After a long break, I've gotten back to painting. As usual, I'm not doing one project at a time is several different scales. When I make some more progress I'll post some picturesdennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-90566531687698943942018-04-07T14:21:00.003-07:002018-04-07T14:21:32.637-07:00Preparing for a Spring Offensivie
Now that it seems as if Winter has finally departed, I can start preparing for my Spring Painting Offensive. The good weather allows me to spray prime outside on our balcony, as long as I take precautions not to prime my wife's flowers or planters. Now the question is "What do I prime?".

I think that I only need to add a few more figures to have a full platoon of late WW II Germans in 28 mm for Chain of Command, so I don't need to prime large amounts of them. The same applies for my late war Canadians and Germans in 20 mm. What I really need to work on is vehicles and terrain pieces, things that I've been avoiding for some time. If the weather remains nice, I'll put in a few hours this week on spray priming those items and maybe some Sarissa North Africa building that have been sitting around, still in kit form. dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-30986736719583437832016-03-26T09:02:00.000-07:002016-03-26T09:02:13.742-07:00Cigar Box Battle Mats

Earlier this week, two 6' x 4' Cigar Box Battle mats arrived in the mail. My initial excitement was tempered when I realized that I'd have to clear my work/project/junk table to actually deploy the mats. Clearing the table is always a major project because I always come across long abandoned, half finished, project that pulls me in an unintended direction.

Now back to the mats, they are everything I expected them to be. They actually impressed my wife, who usually has a neutral to negative view of my hobby purchases. The dimensions of mats are larger than advertised, allowing for the placement of contours, made of whatever you like, under them. This allows for a rolling surface effect, rather than the billiard table look.

I promise I will post some pictures as soon as I get the table cleared of projects, which should be in about a week.

Sad to say, I was on the losing side, the Patriots lost, but this time not to the Broncos.dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-47125477931442932232014-11-15T07:50:00.003-08:002014-11-15T07:50:49.290-08:00Hurons and Iroquois circa 1640

Some pictures from last night's game. a playtest of a scenario written by Howard Whitehouse. It features the Hurons and their French allies defending a camp against an attack by the Iroquois. The rules were quick and simple enough for me to grasp, but errors in my initial deployment led to my defeat at the hands of the Iroquois. To quote Forrest Gump "That's all I have to say about that".dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-5677721615408272342014-10-11T10:33:00.000-07:002014-10-11T10:33:08.917-07:00British Grenadier (Part 2)Last night we continued our AWI game started a few weeks ago. We got off to a late start, having to go over the scenario and high lights of the rules, being our first time using them. The game also marked the debut of my American brigade, 4 sixteen figure regiments mounted 4 figures to a 40mm square base.
Given the fact that we were short on time, we didn't fight the game to a conclusion, but will pick it up in two weeks time. The rules seemed a bit strange, perhaps because we were new to them, but the game did play the way we envision a actual AWI battle would have unfolded.

Here are some pictures from the game.
It's been a while since I've posted anything, real life has kept me busy. In August, Quebec City and l'ile d'Orleans were the destinations for our annual summer trip. Lots of history, culture and good food along the way. While we were away, we had the apartment painted and we are still in the process of unpacking things, almost as if we had moved to a new place. One unanticipated bonus was that I while going through boxes in my "studio" I came across a lot of "lost" and "forgotten" miniatures. This afternoon, I took some time off from unpacking to base some of the figures. Here are the pictures of my work, in no particular order.
There will be plenty more to come now that I've found a stash of bases and static grass.
Stay tuned for updates.dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-48811848462198649402014-04-20T18:18:00.000-07:002014-04-20T18:18:16.471-07:00Easter Sunday has come and is now almost gone. It's been a quiet weekend, most of the family away, no social engagements, so I've managed to do a lot of painting. I'd have a lot more to show for my efforts if I could only stay focused on one project, but that will never happen. Within the past week, I've painted four 18mm Legion Etrangere Paras for Indochina, six Crusader Miniatures 28 mm 1940 French and 12 Perry 28mm AWI. As you can see, all over the place in scales and periods, but that's my style. It would drive me nuts to paint 300 of anything before moving on to another project. Having a dozen half completed project, like I do, would probably push most people ver the edge, but "C'est la vie".
Tuesday, I expect to have a Chain of Command game with my old pal Vincent. We've gamed together sporadically for close to forty years and I'm sure he'd agree with me in saying "We haven't gotten any older, it's the figures that have gotten smaller".

Stay tuned, I hope to have some picture of our Tuesday game posted by mid week.dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-91479385584058748772014-01-23T21:26:00.001-08:002014-01-23T21:26:13.490-08:00Boring UpdateBeen busy with "real" work, the kind I actually get paid money to do. Aside from getting paid, one of the great things about working is that I have access to all sorts of things that would otherwise wind up in a dumpster/skid bin. Really useful pieces of styrofoam, odd bits of plastic and almost unlimited supplies of cardboard which is can be used to mount unpainted figures so I can spray prime them in large groups.
Not much gaming going on at the moment, but I do expect to host a WW2 game using the TFL "Chain of Command" rules in mid February. Stay tuned for a thrilling AAR of that game.dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-213750448828320783.post-92015352957116926402014-01-02T09:15:00.002-08:002014-01-02T09:15:39.800-08:00So we said goodbye to 2013 and welcomed 2014. For me, 2013 wasn't a bad year, just one that seemed to pass very quickly. This year I hope to paint more figures, keep in touch more often with friends and of course, try to lose about 15 pounds.
Here was the entire family on New Year's Day. Included are my wife, my four kids and their partners and the five grandkids, including Vera, Chuck and Dave.
A good sign for the future, some of the grandsons are showing interest in my miniatures, especially my recent efforts, the Fourteenth Brooklyn in 28mm
I intend to focus on the hobby of Miniature War Gaming and all the facets of the hobby that interest me; figures, painting of figures, gaming with those painted figures and the rules used to game with those painted figures.
At the moment, I'm waiting for the quiet time to start painting some 28mm ACW figures that arrived all the way from France courtesy of http://forgottenglorious.blogspot.com/
The figures, in this case the 14th (Brooklyn) New York State Militia, are very nice with crisp details and no flash to speak of. They should paint up nicely. More to follow as the painting progresses.dennis.cunningham02@gmail.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07330152593062584963noreply@blogger.com0
