Historic Buildings Nearby

Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site in Downtown Yonkers, the seat of the Philipse Family. It was confiscated from them after the American War of Independence for their loyal support of Britain. The original parts of the building date from 1682. The ACW monument is a 19th-century addition.

THESE TWO PICTURES ARE OF THE VAN CORTLANDTHOUSE MUSEUM WHICH IS LOCATED THREE MILES SOUTH OF PHILIPSE MANOR HALL.  THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE WAS BUILT IN 1749.

BOTH BUILDINGS ARE MENTIONED BY JOHANN EWALD IN HIS "DIARY OF THE AMERICAN WAR".  THAT ALONE WOULD BE ENOUGH FOR ME TO VISIT THE SITES.
